Esther A. Smith, 88, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015, at the Covington Care Center.  She was born December 16, 1926, in Pleasant Hill, to the late Albert Lester and Ruth Ione (Shafer) Thompson.  Esther married Russell Eugene “Sox” “Jake” Smith; he preceded her in death in 1992.

She is survived by two children, Ann (Jan) Lavey of Panama City Beach, Fla. and Frank Smith of Pleasant Hill; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Warner of Kettering.  She was preceded in death by her son John Smith; daughter Barbara Robinett; and three brothers, Delmer, Dale, and Robert Thompson.

She retired from Troy Sunshade Co., and had also worked for Atlas Underwear and Hobart Brothers.  She was a member of Covington Christian Church, and a lifetime member of V.F.W. #4235 Auxiliary.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 4, at Highland Cemetery, Covington.  Arrangements are in care of Jackson-Sarver Family Funeral Home.  Online tributes may be left for her family at jackson-sarver.com.
