Wealtha Landis Obituary

Wealtha Lillie Landis

Age 94, of Pleasant Hill, was called home to be with her husband of 51 years on August 22, 2022, to continue their dancing to the big bands. Wealtha was a graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1947, and was preceded in death by her husband John W. in 2002, and her parents Paul A. & Mabel E. (Adams) Wackler. She is survived by her brother Fred and his wife Sue (Evans) Wackler of Troy; daughter Linda; son and daughter-in-law James & Paula (Swartz) ; grandchildren Heather Landis (Kyle Vandeman), Jakob & Kara (Ross) Landis, Holly Landis (Steven Cox); great-grandchildren Keleigh and Mazie; niece Susan (Wackler) Valko of Pennsylvania; nephew Bradley Wackler of Troy;  great niece Natalie and Alex Myer; and her bestie friend and cousin Evelyn Dagenhart of Wisconsin; many more friends and cousins who she loved with all her heart.

She was Sam Kunkle’s secretary at Hobart Manufacturing, married the farm boy in 1951 who lived across the street, and worked until Linda was born, and then decided to stay home and raise her family. She loved the Newton High School band where she played bass drum and cymbals, and served as the Chairman of the Uniform Committee for many years while her children were in band.  She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren at marching band events and competitions.  Wealtha volunteered in the cafeteria the Newton Band assumed at the Miami County Fair and had fun making the chicken and noodles. She enjoyed going to dances with John and to the Piqua and Sidney Civic Band concerts and listening to Linda play in those bands. She spent much of her own life as a caregiver for her father-in-law, her own father, and husband John. She dearly loved her family and grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed playing with them whenever she could. She was a feisty gal with lots of spunk, a sweetheart to those who know her. Even though she was a very sick lady in the end, she thought the ride in the medical helicopter was a lot of fun. Yep, that was our stay-at-home mom.
