Thomas Force Obituary

Thomas Force

On Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at home and family by his side we said good bye to our beloved husband, father, and Papaw Tom Force. He was born in Greenville, Ohio to Charles and Lois (Shumaker) Force on March 4, 1943. Tom was a graduate of Franklin Monroe High School, Trine (Tri State) University and the University of Dayton.

He was a mechanical engineer by trade at Hobart Brothers. Tom dedicated much of his life to public service and to serving others for the City of Troy, Ohio spanning 41 years. Tom was first elected council member at large in 1976 and held that office until 1991. He then was elected President of Troy City Council and represented the city during the first Sister City Trade Mission visit to Japan. He accepted an appointment to the Troy Planning Commission and served from 1994 through 2017 and on the City of Troy Board of Zoning Appeals from 2007 through 2017. Tom was an Ohio Track official for over 30 years. He had great joy in being the starter in many of his own grandchildren’s races. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play football and his granddaughters and great granddaughters soccer games.

Tom is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alinda “Lynn” Hillis Force; his daughters Lisa Williams, Lori Force Sawka (David), and Leslie Hall; 7 grandchildren Jordan (Bob) DeMoss, Jacob (Lisa) Hall, Jared (Kristine) Hall, DeWayne (Amanda) Williams, Kylie (David) Yenney, Blake (Jordan) Williams and Katie-Grace (Nate) Fair; 13 great grandchildren Taetum, Carter, Dillynn, Nevaeh, Allana, Layla, Veda, Little Blake, Mason, Jaxon, Molly, Legend, LeNaye, and a baby girl on the way; brothers Jack (Judy) Force, Dick (Terry) Force; nephew Scott; nieces Krista, Stephanie, Jina, and Jisele.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Lois Force; father-in-law and mother-in-law Hugh and Frances Hillis.

Our family wishes to thank Dr. Rajeev Kulkarni and his staff and the staff of Hospice of Miami County for the care, support, and kindness. A special thank you to Curt and Jo.
