Rebecca Ann Ray
Age 80, of Troy, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Troy Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 10, 1939, in Celina, Ohio, to her parents Clyde Melvin & Marie (Bodkin) Preston. She graduated from Newton High School class of 1958, and later earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Wittenberg University . Rebecca worked at Newton Local Schools and Tipp City Exempted Village Schools were she taught primary physical education and worked with children with learning disabilities. She also worked as a dispatcher for the Miami County Sheriff’s Department, Covington Police Department, and was a corrections officer at the West Central Juvenile Detention Center. Through the 1980s and 1990s, she held many positions as a legal secretary working with municipal court judges and law firms. She was a member of the First Brethren Church in Pleasant Hill. She will be missed and remembered by her loving son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey O. & D’aun Coate of Troy; grandchildren Jessica Smith and Kaitlyn Smith; sister Pat Schultz of California; brother-in-law Gary Alexander of Pleasant Hill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Cynthia Alexander; brother-in-law Thomas Schultz.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 23, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 PM Tuesday at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 1 S.
