Biography

Millie Newman,
age: 91, was born in Washington County OH February 2nd, 1922 to Leroy David & Laura Blanche Whittington Ulmer. She had 3 siblings: 2 sister Ruth Maybelle & Margaret Frances & 1 brother Paul W. Ulmer. She attended elementary school through the 8th grade in a one room school building at Gravel Bank. Millie graduated from Marietta OH High School, 1938. She furthered her education at Ohio University receiving a Bachelor of Science Education & graduated, 1942. After graduating from college she moved to Dayton OH & began her teaching career at Webster School retiring from Hickory Dale School after teaching 30 plus years. After retiring from teaching she worked at Edison State College. Millie was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ. She married Kenneth Newman, August 16th, 1960 & acquired 6 step-children: 3 sons & daughter-in-laws, Gene & June Newman of Tipp City, Jim & Lola Newman of Cadiz; David & Lynn Newman of Chocowenity NC, Ruth Bowman of Troy, Naomi & Norman Brown of Troy & Janice Newman of Richmond IN. She had 15 step-grandchildren & several great step-grandchildren & several great-great step-children & nephews & nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth Newman, brother & 2 sisters, 2 step-grandsons, Tommy Newman & David Unger. Celebration of Life services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, November 22nd, 2013, at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 1 S. Main Street, Pleasant Hill, Ohio. Ray Ulmer will officiate with interment following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00 Friday at the funeral home.
