Mary Ellen Johnson, 87, of Greenville, formerly of Troy, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016, at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville. She was born March 20, 1928, in Winchester, Indiana, to the late Chris and Emma (Lesley) Hinshaw. She married Kenneth O. Johnson on October 31, 1947; he preceded her in death on March 20, 2000.
Mary Ellen will be missed and remembered by her two sons, William “Bill” Johnson of Duncanville, Texas and Gary & Barbara Johnson of Beavercreek; grandson Derek Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Leslie, Robert, Lawrence, Marshall, Herman, and infant Ralph Lewis Hinshaw; and sister Helen Ebersole.
Mary Ellen was a graduate of Monroe Township High School in West Manchester, and was a lifelong homemaker. She was a member of the Troy Church of the Brethren and was an avid and talented baker.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, at the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel, 750 Chestnut St., Greenville, with Pastor Jon Keller and Chaplain Todd Reish officiating. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel. Private burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Troy Church of the Brethren, 1431 W. Main St., Troy, OH 45373.
