Martha Jane (Wackler) Yingst of Greenville, formerly of Dayton, passed away Thursday morning April 16, 2015 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, IN. Born November 20, 1922 in Pleasant Hill, Martha was raised on the family farm with 13 brothers and sisters before meeting the love of her life, Joseph Yingst, as a cheerleader at Newton High School and graduating in 1940. Martha embraced life as a devoted mother, wife, and homemaker for many years before also going to work for the Dayton Public School system. She and Joseph raised four successful children together and took pride as members of the parent group at Kennedy School for the Deaf, where Martha worked and also volunteered. Martha radiated love for her family in everything she did, from hours spent making batches of perfectly crisp peanut brittle for the holidays to crocheting blankets for her children, grandchildren, and friends. Bowling, golf, Euchre, and playing Bridge were just a few of the things Martha enjoyed with those she loved. A member of Mack Memorial Church of the Brethren for 44 years and presently a member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, Martha is preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years: Joseph Yingst; her parents: Lawrence and Mary Mabel (Jackson) Wackler; and siblings: Francis (Wackler) Hoke; Charles Wackler; Raymond Wackler; Ruth (Wackler) Goings; Thelma (Wackler) Waymire; Lydia (Wackler) Long; Harold Wackler; Mary (Wackler) Brumbaugh; Donald Wackler; Freda (Wackler) Farmer. Martha is survived by her children: Lonnie (Ruth) Yingst of Great Falls, MT; Cheryl (Jerry) Attix of Livermore, CA; John (Sylvia) Yingst of Santa Ana, CA; Michael (Belinda) Yingst of Englewood; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and siblings: Ruby (Wackler) Griesheimer; Fern (Wackler) Adams; Nancy (Wackler) Willis. In keeping with Martha’s giving and caring spirit, her body has been donated to the Indiana University School of Medicine. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 5:00 PM, with a Memorial Service immediately following at 7:00 PM, at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, 300 E. Monument St., Pleasant Hill, OH 45359, officiated by Pastor Nick Beam and Lynda Adams.
