Kenneth Filbrun Obituary

Kenneth E. Filbrun

Age 85, of Sidney, Dad was the oldest of four sons born on February 6, 1936 to Eugene and Effie Filbrun. From the stories we heard them tell, Dad and his brothers, Don, Lowell, and Jerry had a great childhood full of adventure. Don and Jerry preceded him in death while Lowell, Sara, Jen and Leah remain.

Dad met Mom (Janet Mae Collins) on a blind date and they married on July 29, 1956. They enjoyed 54 years together. As mom’s health declined, Dad very faithfully cared for her as long as he could. He left a tremendous example to those around him as we watched him love mom with patience and gentleness through those years. In 2007 they moved to Dorothy Love Retirement Center together where they were blessed with three years till mom passed in 2010. Dad spent his years at Dorothy Love working in the gardens, washing windows so the residents could see out better, feeding birds, fishing in the ponds, making new friends and spreading cheer as he motored around on his scooter with the tall orange flag delivering mail.

Dad spent his career years at Hobart Brothers where he worked in the winding department. He also was caretaker of the Fletcher Cemetery for several years where he hired us kids to mow for 50 cents an hour plus the occasional can of pop and trip to George’s Dairy Bar.

Dad was a member of the OGBBC NC. He loved calling in to listen to Sunday sermons and enjoyed Bible studies and discussions at Dorothy Love. He shared his love of Jesus by his quiet and gentle life and found contentment in helping others.

Dad’s family includes four children, seven grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Dave & his wife Amy and daughters Liz Elmquist (Dana), Tricia, and Emily; Sandy and her husband Peter Huelsebusch; Linda and her husband Rich Deaton and sons Rod (Sara Rinehart), Jason (Ashley James), Steve (Jana Kinsley) and Jake (Kenya Riffey); Debbie Filbrun. He also loved a good chat with his nephews and nieces.

It is an honor to call him Dad....we will miss his little crooked smile and quiet chuckle. But heaven calls. Not long before he passed, he was getting glimpses. The flowers and music were so amazing he couldn’t describe them. “You should come too,” he said.
