John Smith Obituary


SMITH, John Carr Age 87, of Bradford, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Koester Pavilion, Troy. He was born January 8, 1925, in Bladen, Ohio, to his parents Evertt & Velva (Waugh) Smith. John served in the US Army in Germany during WWII where he was decorated with a Bronze Battle Star and Purple Heart. He retired from Hobart Brothers as a welder after over 20 years of service. He also owned and operated Smitty's Transmission in Painters Creek and drove a gas truck for CITGO in Troy. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing at Lake Loramie and Grand Lake St. Mary's. John is survived by his loving wife Betty (Carr) Smith; daughters and son-in-law Sharon & Gene Aspery of Delaware, Ohio, Karen Anderson of Troy; son and daughter-in-law Stephen & Rosalin "Missy" Smith of Troy; grandchildren Kelly & Barry Ackley of Dublin, Ohio, Kari & Jeff Smith of Delaware, Ohio, Zachary Smith of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, Jennifer Smith of Nashville, Tennessee; 6 great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law Mildred Beckstead of Piqua, Mary & Richard Poling of Troy; brother and sister-in-law Willard & Patricia Smith of Pleasant Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Arbutus Reser; brother Gene Smith. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Friday, May 4, at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 1 S. Main Street, Pleasant Hill. Pastor Dale Adkins will officiate with interment following at Miami Memorial Park, Covington. The family will receive friends from 10-12 PM Friday at the funeral home.
