Joe S. Marker
Age 91, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Friday, July 10, 2020, at his home looking out at the best cornfield in Miami County. He was born December 29, 1928, in Darke County, Ohio, to his parents Sam & Esta (McCann) Marker. Joe attended Versailles Schools and worked as a farmer in the Miami County area. Joe was a well known Belgian draft horse breeder and had the Grand Champion Belgian Stallion born and bred in Ohio at the Ohio State Fair in 1967. He was a well respected draft horse and mule judge in a five state area. He was a judge at the NAILE (North American International Livestock Exposition) Draft Horse Show in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a Miami County Fair Board Director for 30 years and was acknowledged by the Miami County Soil Conservation District for his soil conservation efforts.
He was a US Army veteran who served his country during the Korean War and was a life member of the VFW Post 6557 Mountain Top.
He was preceded by his first wife Susie (Veit) Marker and his second wife Carolyn (Baughn) Marker; siblings Chalmer Marker, Mary Dues, and Betty DeMange; step children Michael Murray, Marilyn Groves (Jack), Mary Vig.
He will be missed and remembered by his loving daughter Katharine Marker of Pleasant Hill; sister Hazel Nickol; step daughter Maggi Coil (Joe); grandchildren Jennifer Sanders (David), Jannette Snyder (Rick), Andrea Jones, John Martin, Tyler Schindel (Megan), Brady Schindel (Alyx Staples), Nathan Miller; great grandchildren Todd Snyder, Anthony Sanders, Madelyn Schindel. Private family services will be held with interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday, July 13, at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 1 S. Main Street, Pleasant Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County.
