Janet Kay Bashore

Age 80, of Arcanum, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Hospice of Miami County. She was born October 23, 1942, in Miami County, Ohio, to her parents Lloyd E. & Kathryn C. (Loy) Riffell. Janet graduated from Newton High School class of 1960. On August 4, 1963, she married Kenneth Bashore and together they shared a life for over 46 years until his passing in 2009. She worked as a seamstress for over 30 years. She was a passionate volunteer for veterans and their families. She was a charter, lifetime member of the VFW Post 6557 Auxiliary where she served as past president and treasurer . She enjoyed VA Bingo trips and helping with the VFW dinners where, in recent years, she was known as the “money-taker”. Janet was an avid sports fan. She loved to watch the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, The Ohio State Buckeyes and college basketball, especially girls basketball. Janet loved spending time with her grandsons and more recently with her great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Kenneth “Doc” Bashore and her parents; sister-in-law Sandy Riffell; brother-in-law Pat Sims. She will be missed and remembered by her children and their spouses Melissa & Rue Bowman of Versailles, Sandra & Alan Davis of Ludlow Falls, Sharon & Dwayne Hall of Tipp City; grandchildren Michael (Sarah) Bowman, Jacob ( Madison Douglas) Bowman, Joseph(Katelyn) Bowman; great grandchildren Theodore, Emma, Julianne, Elaina, Evelyn,  Lincoln, Mazikeen, and Claira (arriving in March); siblings and their spouses Susan  & Steve Davis of Stockport, Ohio, Paul & Joyce Riffell of Bradford, Don Riffell of Conyers, Georgia, Shirley Sims of Tipp City; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harry & Diana Bashore of Troy; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.  Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday February 10, at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 1 S. Main Street, Pleasant Hill, with interment following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
