Gary Eldon Maggart
Age 80, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at his home. He was born September 25, 1942, in Christiansburg, Ohio, to his parents Charles & Lucille (Pittman) Maggart who preceded him in death. Gary graduated from Troy High School class of 1960. He worked at AO Smith in Tipp City and retired from Hobart Corp. as a service manager after 41 years of employment. On June 14, 1975, married Sherry (Fessler) Maggart in Troy, Ohio, and together they shared a life for over 47 years. Gary was a US Army veteran and served in the US Air Force Reserves. Gary was on the Pleasant Hill SAY soccer board. He was an active committee member of the Old Soldier Festival where he and Sherry served as chairman for many years. He was a past member of the Troy Elks and Troy Eagles. Gary enjoyed lake life at Grand Lake St. Marys for over 14 years, where he loved to go fishing and boating. He enjoyed woodworking, fixing things, tinkering in his garage, and decorating for the holidays. He was known to many as “Papa Bear” and “Catfish”, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He will be missed and remembered by his loving wife Sherry; son Mark Alan & Stacy Maggart of St. Marys and their children; son Spencer Ray Maggart & Chelsea Clawson of Pleasant Hill and their daughter Jolene Jade; daughter Alisha Marie & Eric Wood of Pleasant Hill and their future daughter Ivy Rae; sister Becky Johnson; brother Charles Maggart; special friends Jeff & Deedy Curtis; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 31, at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 1 S. Main Street, Pleasant Hill, with interment following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
