Edward Wayne Benning

Age 91, of Troy, formerly of Pleasant Hill, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born September 28, 1929, in Piqua, Ohio, to his parents Lewis & Ada (Nishwitz) Benning. Ed attended Piqua High School and served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. On June 7, 1952, he married Lois Jane Shade in Pleasant Hill and together they shared a life for over 68 years. He retired from Hobart Brothers after nearly 41 years of service as a punch press operator. He was a 4H advisor where he helped build the first cabins at the Indian Hills 4H camp and was a past Master of the Miami Grange. He and Lois were devoted customers at Lincoln Square restaurant and he made friends with who ever he met. His truck patch-sized garden on Lauver Road was known to be weed free and he always had shiny cars. He enjoyed playing euchre and loved his fried chicken legs.

He will be missed and remembered by his loving wife Lois Jane (Shade) Benning; children and their spouses Gary & Jane Benning of Greenville, Jerry & Teresa Benning of Commerce, Georgia, Carolyn & Dan Christman East Liberty; grandchildren Stefen & Jeri Benning of Puyallup, Washington, Annett & Gabriel Garcia of Columbus, Georgia, Jason & Brittany Benning of Dayton, Julie & Larry Moore of Troy, Emily & Kyle Diehl of Columbus, Zach & Jessica Christman of Sidney, Dan Christman of Sidney, Audrey Christman of East Liberty; great grandchildren Gavin Benning and Ava Moore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert, Lawrence, Herman, and James Benning. 

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, April 26, at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 1 S. Main Street, Pleasant Hill. Pastor Eugene Oburn will officiate with interment following Miami Memorial Park, Covington. The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, Multiple Sclerosis Association, or Newton School Scholarship.
