Marjorie Work
Age 95, of Pleasant Hill, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at the home of her daughter, Kathleen Work in Berryville, Virginia, where she had been residing for the past six weeks. Marjorie (Lemon) Work was born on May 27, 1922, in Ripley, Ohio, to Louis A. “Billy” Lemon and Vera (Rossman) Lemon. Her parents, a brother, Lloyd Lemon, and a sister, Phyllis (Lemon) Crabbe predeceased her. Marjorie married Clarence Lee Work in Sioux City, Iowa, on March 8, 1944, and the couple spent 51 years together before his death on August 30, 1995. Marjorie leaves behind five children: Linda Lee Myers of Troy, Ohio; Michael J. Work of New London, New Hampshire; Kathleen Ann Work of Berryville, Virginia; Kevin Andrew Work of Findlay, Ohio; and Brian Patrick Work of Parker, Colorado; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Marjorie graduated from Ripley High School (Ripley, Ohio) in 1938 as the class Valedictorian. She worked for 27 years as secretary to the commander of the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol before retiring in 1985. Marjorie was very active in church throughout her long life, serving as a part time secretary and singing in the choir of the United Church of Christ in Pleasant Hill, Ohio. She had a lifelong love of music, gardening, and animals. Marjorie was also an avid sports fan and a firm supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds, and Cincinnati Bengals. Besides being remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, Marjorie will be remembered for her intelligence, kindness, and humor. She was unshakable in her religious faith, in her convictions, and in her loyalty to her friends and family. Marjorie’s family would especially like to thank her neighbors and friends in Pleasant Hill, whose kind help enable Marjorie to live in her own home until a few weeks ago. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 28, at the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ, 10 W. Monument Street, Pleasant Hill. Interment at Miami Memorial Park, Covington. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ.
