James E. Pitman

Age 85, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017, at the VA Medical Center-Lakeside Manor Hospice Unit. He was born January 5, 1932, in Bradford, Ohio, to his parents Virgil & Lydia Pitman. He graduated from Bradford High School and attended the Hobart School of Welding. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and remained active with many veteran’s organizations throughout his life. He was a founding member and past commander of the VFW Post 6557 (Mountain Top) and was a member of the American Legion, AmVets Post 66,  and the Tri Village Memorial Honor Guard. He was a past commander for the Miami County Veterans Council and served on the staff of the VFW 3rd District. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 3998 Covington. He enjoyed bowling, fishing at Grand Lake St. Marys, and was a member of the Country Western Music Association. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Velma (Yount) Pitman; brothers Ed Pitman, William Pitman, Robert Pitman. He will be missed and remembered by his two sons Michael J. Pitman and Rick L. Pitman both of Pleasant Hill; brother and sister-in-law John & Norma Pitman of Marion; sister Alice Ford of Tampa; numerous extended family. A military service will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, December 9, at the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ, 10 West Monument St., Pleasant Hill. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Saturday at the church.
