Dear Aunt Nancy, Lloyd, Jean, Jane, Tony, and Billy,

When I think of Uncle Bill my heart warms and softens...

Although I didn't see him often, each time we met it was as if time had stood still. He'd greet me from across the room with a smile, find out "which one" I was, ask about my life in Cleveland, make a quick joke or two, and inevitably remark on how much he loved and missed his brother Gene. His sentiments warmed my heart and helped keep my dad alive- a precious gift I gratefully received. For that, and many other reasons, I loved him.

I, on the other hand, (despite the infamous "Willis Boy" resemblance) had no trouble remembering "which one" Uncle Bill was. He was the one with the comforting constancy about him- same flat top haircut, same cologne, same love of conversation over a fresh pot(s) of coffee. I'd stand in his presence and recall the many talks he and dad shared around your kitchen table, our kitchen table, ANY kitchen table! Those two weighed in on everything- family life, the farm, General Motors, insurance policies, county fairs, ostriches- until sunset or an inquiring phone call from a flabbergasted wife! I enjoyed our recollections and spending time with another person who loved family as much as I do. I will cherish those memories and the times that end too soon for all of us.

I believe in the continuity of life and in love as a never ending, blessed state. Although I'm deeply saddened by Uncle Bill's physical departure, I trust he now experiences the fullness of God's love and is sustained by those who welcomed him home as well as we who hold him close in heart until we meet again.

Love and blessing to you all,

Ann and family

I was sorry to hear of Bill's passing. The childhood memories of spending time at the farm are precious. From putting a ring in a hog's snout to using a precious pony as a sire to our pony, the list goes on. It was wonderful having the Willis family in our lives. May your memories be legacies of love...Gail Pearce Staley
